Babymoon at Amelia Island

When we found out we were pregnant, I knew I wanted to go on a Babymoon. It sounded nice to have one last vacation with my husband before the baby arrives. I looked for a location that would be warm, not crowded and relaxing. Locations were a little limited due to Covid. I really wanted to go somewhere tropical but I was weary of Covid testing and heaven forbid getting stuck in another country if either of us happened to test positive heading back. ( We are both vaccinated but as you know it can still happen and I had a friend get stuck in Mexico for 7 days!!)

Anyway, we also were a little limited with the time we were going because I wanted to take advantage of going during my school's spring break so I wouldn't have to take off extra time. I also didn't wanna be in the car too long or on a plane. So, we were looking for a warm place in April, on the east coast and a new place we've never been. We also didn't want to spend a ton. After all, we are expecting a baby! 🙃

I came across Amelia Island in Florida and we went with it. It was a 5 hour drive that wasn't bad at all. We stayed at SpringHill Suites by Marriott Amelia Island. I was drawn to this hotel because it was new, being built in 2021 and all the reviews were great. The stay was nice and the staff was friendly. The room was clean and spacious, the beach was a quick walk across the street and there was a pool with two restaurants on site. We had all the basics.

Unfortanely, the weather ended up not being as great as I would have liked. The day before we came, 83 degrees, the day we got there 62 and very windy!😑 Urg. But we did have some sun of the days. The beach was very nice, with smooth white sand, gentle waves and plenty of space to spread out, as it wasn't crowded.

Some honorable mentions:

The Lagniappe- Amelia Island- Neat atmosphere with big booths for you and your significant other. The bartended made me a delicious mocktail and my husband enjoyed his Old fashioned. We started out with the calamari, which was cooked perfectly. Hubby had the grilled red fish with fried oysters, hoppin' John & pickled collards. He worries about ordering fish because we cook a lot and sometimes fish isn't seasoned and we can do better at home. But this dish was hitting! Every element on the plate was tasty. I rarely eat pork chops but it came highly recommended, so I tried it. It was served with a blackberry ginger preserve and the pairing together was sooo good. We finished with a raspberry cheesecake which hit the spot!

Bantum and Biddy- This restaurant was a little different than we expected. You order your food at the counter and then pick a place to sit and wait. They have an open concept so you can see them cook your food which is kind of neat. The food was ready quickly. I wanted the french toast, but they sold out,🙄 so I had basic pancakes with fresh fruit. They were good, but husband's chicken and waffles was better. The star had to be the homemade bourbon syrup and the orange juice. Now the OJ was $7 and we almost didn't get it! Who pays $7 for OJ? 🤔Well you do when the baby wants it and nothing else. It was freshly squeezed and very yummy. Better believe we drank every last bit!

Sunset Cruise- This cruise was only an hour, but it was an entertaining hour and so pretty. The driver of the boat gave a quick history lesson as we sailed out from the dock. They DONT guarantee this but we were lucky to see two fun sites! We saw wild horses and dolphins and I felt like a giddy kid!😍 Of course we saw the most amazing sunset heading back. This company offers different tours, with good reviews, so I would try one if you have time. After the cruise we went to the Salty Pelican for casual tasty food! Try the gator bites if you go!

Boneyard Beach- This is technically in South Carolina, but it was only a 20 minutes drive. If you love nature, this is definitely a site to see. Boneyard Beach is in Bulls Island, which is a six-and-a-half mile uninhabited island that remains virtually untouched and is home to countless wildlife and endangered species. Once you park your car, you take a trial about 1/4 to 1/2 a mile to the beach. There you will find countless seashells and trees of all sizes and shapes; many that have been whitewashed by the ocean and other elements. You aren't supposed to swim in the beach due to the trees, but families go to walk the beach, have picnics and take in the beautiful sites.

We enjoyed our time. We slept in, caught up on shows and had a meal or two in the room so we could relax. If you are on the edge about having a babymoon, do it! Even if it's just a staycation in your hometown. It was nice to get away from work and be intentional about spending time with my husband and both of us taking time out for some self care.

We will be back to Amelia Island. We didn't get to do everything I wanted to do. I had to tell myself that we didn't have to have plans everyday and it was also important to rest. Therefore, we have to return to see the rest of the Island! Everyone who we interacted with were nice, we had great customer service everywhere and it was just a cool, laid back town.
