We had our baby shower last weekend and it was everything I pictured it would be and more. I had a vision of an Under the Sea/Mermaid theme and it was just that.
My sister was in charge, and 3 of my besties helped as well. They pulled out all the stops with so many thoughtful details. Everything from the photo wall to the gift bags and desert table was incredible. I heard they were up to the wee hours of the night, making items and decorating all the things. My sister is very creative and came up with some great ideas! They did a WONDERFUL job and I'm grateful for my big sis and my tribe for carrying out my vision. ❤️
A huge thank you to all of my friends and family (present and afar) that have been so supportive and loving throughout this exciting time — I love you and am so grateful for you!
Place
We held the baby shower at a restaurant that sat on the water and was the perfect background of the water and boats. I mean you can't have an Under the Water theme, without water right? 😉The table cloths, centerpieces, and goody bags all had personal touches of mermaids, fishes or other details and blended in with the theme.
Dress details
Things have been so busy with work and baby prep that I looked for my dress a little later than I planned. I would browse items but wouldn't pull the trigger as I thought I had more time. 2 weeks before, I had a vision of the exact dress I wanted. Of course all of the sites that carried it were overseas stores, taking 3-4 weeks to arrive🤦🏽♀️. I found one site and paid extra and it was supposed to get here the day before the shower. Just in case, I ordered 2 back up dresses. Well thank God for that. The dress below turned out to be one of my back up dresses from Fashion Nova, as my dress didn't show up in time. It actually turned to be a great addition to the shower and it didn't hurt that hubby and I were matching!
Timing
I held my baby shower when I was 33 weeks. It was good time period for me, as I was still feeling good and had energy at the shower and to organize. They say the typical time to hold one is four to six weeks before your due date. I've heard some have them in their 2nd trimesters. Most people find it ideal to be far enough along that you have a good ol baby bump for pics, but not too close that you are overly tired or rundown. Do whatever you feel is best for you!
Games/Activities
We did a questionnaire of "Guess who" mom or dad edition. Various statements or questions were asked and our friends and family guessed which one of us was more likely to relate to that statement. This was a fun one.
They wrote diaper messages which I cant wait to read! If you haven't done this before, you write something funny, kind, or helpful on the diaper to keep mom or dad entertained during those late night diaper change.
We played bottle chug-a lug, where the participants had to chug juice out of the baby bottle the fastest. We had some clever tricksters with this one. On of my friends took the top of the bottle and drank the juice out of the bottle in no time (see in the video below), and stated " hey- you didn't say we couldn't"🤷🏾♀️. Another friend bit the top of his nipple, making the hole much bigger and easier to drink. His response was "my son does this sometimes". They both were disqualified😂
There was also diaper pong, which is similar to beer pong 😜. The diapers were on a poster board and the person who got the most in the diaper, won.
Lastly, we played the classic "cant say baby" game. Everyone starts with 1 clothespin and if you catch someone says baby, they can take your clothespin. Whoever has the most at the end, wins.
Raffle
I always hear about how many diapers babies go thru and wanted to do a diaper raffle like other showers I've been thru. For every pack of diaper each person brought, they received a raffle ticket. At the end of the shower, a ticket was pulled and a prize was won.
The prizes were marvelous too! There were themed goody baskets, and boy were they nice. We had a BBQ one that had tools and supplies needed for a day on the grill, there was an adult spirit one with glasses and shots, there was a chocolate lover basket, along with cash prizes
The shower was great and this baby is so loved already! We can't wait to meet her and introduce her to her lovely family and friends

Look at the welcome sign. Isn't it the cutest!!

I requested a desert themed table and of course they delivered!

The macaroons were a must have request as well, and they were so yummy!

The balloon wall was so lovely and made for a perfect back drop for photos.
