Welp, I wrote my first blog post over a year ago and haven't wrote a post sinceš. My, has a lot happened since then. We all know Covid is still going on, which looking back, I thought it would be over by now, but here we are. Even though things have not been ideal, I've accomplished a lot since I started my business website. I don't toot my own horn much but lately I have realized the importance of celebrating wins; big and small and giving myself props. I mean, if you aren't going to cheer for yourself, how do you expect others to? It starts within! So here is my praise report since the last time I spoke with you all:
I successfully ran a kids yoga camp during the summer. Whew. First off-This was stressful. š¤¦šæI didn't realize how hard it would be to get sign ups during the season of Covid. I began my teaching online and a lot of my students were out of state, so finding local kids was a bit challenging. This was my first "big" event. I rented a space, bought supplies for everything, including snacks and breakfast for the kids and had lesson plans for each day. Things didn't go as expected, however I learned to go with the flow. I got great feedback from the parents and the kids. I ended up breaking almost even because I few kids pulled out a week before. But I don't regret it. I learned a lot and am looking forward to making it better next year!
I've done a few kids yoga partiesš These are so fun, especially when the parties have themes. I was so nervous for my first one, but after things got started, things went well! I'm looking forward to doing more of these!
I had my first partnership and held yoga classes at a restaurant and had great turn outs- Again, this is always nerve wrecking for me. New faces show up and when they start talking about other yoga classes they've been in, I get discouraged and worry that my class wont live up to their expectations. Imposter Syndrome is real ya'll. But I do what I tell my students and I " take a deep breath" and then I move forward. Sometimes I stumble a bit due to nerves but it always ends well. I have another event planned this month āŗļø
It took me longer than I thought, but I completed all of my requirements for pre/post natal yoga and now am certified to teach pregnant bodies!! š„³My training started in March and we met for one weekend (8 hours each day) for 3 months. We also had online modules and tests to complete, observations of classes and practice videos to submit along with podcasts to listen to and books to read. It was a very thorough training with a variety of guest speakers. It was such a fulfilling training where I learned tons! I still have a book I need to finish! I am so excited about this, as I plan to merge OT with maternal health. I have been avoiding having a niche, because I like working with adults and kids in my field. But this training, just may make me focus on maternal health and growth and development of babies and kids. Stay tuned...
On a personal note, My husband and I have been house hunting and jumping thru hoops since 2019 and we FINALLY closed on a townhouse!š House hunting during Covid is NO joke. Houses we were looking at before the pandemic, jumped 20 and 30k in price and completions dates kept getting pushed back. Pre-owned houses were having bidding wars with buyers bidding waaaayyy over asking price and over what the house was worth. We even had a builder tell us, when they released the next lots, they would email the list of everyone interested (over 100+ people), and the first 5 people who got there with a check for earnest money, will get the lot. Like what? It was looking like the hunger games of house hunting. But the lord was with us and we were blessed with a great offer, before the house went on the market. It wasn't what we had in mind when we started but it checks off a lot of boxes and will be a great starter house. We have moved in.... well kinda. There's so much do to. I am deciding how I want my yoga space to be, as well as still organizing things and completing lots of projects!. It is is so fun, but can be pricey and overwhelming at times.
I've been on a few trips this year, was in a good friend's wedding and have just been trying to enjoy life when I have free time. I also picked up another job, making that 3, while I do yoga on the side. š¤ŖI know crazy! Next year, I'm dropping something so I can focus on my passion!
Well thanks for reading all my updates! I am really starting to feel good in this yoga world. My next step is merging it with occupational therapy!
Remember to pat yourself on the back too! As we near the end of the year, what can you celebrate? It can be big or small!
Side note: Here's a picture of me on the beach, because although I LOVE the holidays, I am missing the beach. Talk to you all soon. I promise!
